Founded in 1920 as a private non-profit organization, The American Library in Paris receives no regular government subsidies and is largely financed by member fees, donations and grants. Membership and other fees make up less than 25% of the Library's annual revenues. Your support helps us continue to provide books and information as well as research, and educational programs to our members and those who access our resources on a short-term basis.

How to Join
It only takes a few minutes to sign up in person at the Library. Please visit us at the Library Circulation desk where we will process your membership application and issue you with your Library card.
When joining the Library please bring:
- a valid photo ID (passport or identity card)
- a bill with current address (EDF, telephone)
- payment in cash, check, or credit card
- For short-term memberships—a 60€ refundable cash deposit (required only if you want borrowing privileges)
- For student memberships—bring your current student card
- For unemployed memberships— bring official documentation
- For disabled memberships— bring your MDPH card
Note: All membership fees are non-refundable, but they are transferable.
